Push the Boat Out 2015

I am undertaking a 300 mile cycle round the region’s clubs this coming weekend (1-4 May 2015). This includes over the 4 days, visits to Berwick SC, Coquet Shorebase Trust, Coquet Yacht Club, Newbiggin SC, Tynemouth SC, Ocean Youth Trust at Royal Quays on Friday, Saturday at South Shields  SC, Tees and Hartlepool YC and Scaling Dam SC. Sunday will see me reach Teesdale SC and on Monday (if still in one piece) I will be reaching Derwent Reservoir SC and Kielder Water SC.

A detailed itinerary with approximate timings at your club is available  - look for PTBO in the left hand navigation menu. If you want to experience sailing, perhaps for the first time, or are thinking of coming back to sailing after a break, why not use the itinary to find a club near you to pop along and see what's happening. You will be most welcome.

As I undertake this trip I am raising money for the Ocean Youth Trust North to help those from a more disadvantaged background experience sailing, usually for the first time. I have a Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/OYT-North and would love to see donations from club members. You and your club members are welcome to join us at Royal Quays for a BBQ hosted by the OYT on Friday evening after about 6:30pm. By the time I arrive I will have completed the first day and 97 miles so would welcome some food and a drink with you. This is a great opportunity to support OYT, meet some of its leaders and volunteers and members from other clubs. A small but not compulsory donation to OYT for the BBQ would be most welcome to reduce costs.

If you or any of your members want to join me for the ride or even a part of it (from to to your club say) please let me know or find me en route via the approximate itinerary on the web site.

I look forward to seeing some of you as I get round the region and hope some of you will join us on Friday evening. Listen out for me on Radio Newcastle (to be confirmed around 0745 on Saturday) and Liz King our Regional Communicator is working hard to promote this and your own club’s PTBO event in all of the local and regional media. As you know I will be photographed at every club (hopefully with your PTBO banner and some activity going on) and we will be using this in the PR associated with the event. Use this on your websites and FB pages as well as the RYA NE FB page as you wish to help spread the word.

I hope you have a successful PTBO event, please recirculate this email and use it on your FB pages.

Many thanks Steve Gibbon
